Who controls higher education in America?
Who makes the decisions regarding institutional policy, finances, costs and access to a university education, external relations, and long term planning?
Who occupies the positions of power on the boards of the fifty largest research universities in America?
This web site consists of several tools to help to answer these questions. The first aspect of this site is a review of the debate, who controls higher education?, as well as a summary of the data collected for this study. The second aspect is a database containing biographical information on the university directorate (the trustees, regents, and overseers of the fifty largest research universities in the United States). The third portion is an analysis of corporate power and influence through a vast network of interlocking directorates that mesh with the university system's highest levels of governance. The fourth portion is a focused look at the upper eschelons of the power elite who control the American university system.
